Ship of Fools Awards

2. Least Embarrassing Christian of the Year

Winner: Archbishop Desmond Mpilo Tutu

Probably the most widely respected Christian in the world... and if he's not, he will be now. In 1984 he won the Nobel Peace Prize for his fight against racial injustice in South Africa. In 1985 he became the first black Anglican Bishop of Johannesburg. In 1996 he chaired South Africa's Truth and Reconciliation Commission. In 1999 he finally achieves recognition in the SOF awards. Desmond Tutu walked off with a cool 45% of the vote.

  • Rt Hon Gordon Brown MP – with 13%, for his commitment to leading the G8 Summit of world leaders towards the reduction of Third World debt for unashamedly Christian reasons.
