Picture of Lego Piraates Advent Calendar
Time to send us your favourite "Badvent" calendar
With more than 10 million Advent calendars due to be purchased in the next six weeks, we're leading a national (UK) search to find one we can truly call a "Badvent" calendar – the one furthest from the true meaning of Christmas.

You're invited to check the shelves of your local stores and take a pic of the calendar you want to nominate, plus a sentence or two explaining why you've chosen it.

Nominations close: Friday 24th October 2014

A public vote featuring the shortlisted calendars will follow with results announced in early November.

There are three ways to send us your favourite Badvent calendar...

Francis Goodwin of Christmas Starts with Christ, a campaign that aims to tackle the gradual disappearance of Jesus from Christmas, said: "On window 24 of most Advent calendars you might find pixies, pirates, snow bunnies, even traffic police – but you'll be lucky to see Mary and baby Jesus."

We were intrigued last year to see the Meaningful Chocolate Company successfully introduce their Fair Trade Real Advent Calendar, with (gasp!) actual Bible characters and the Bethlehem story, plus a charity focus, into an already crowded market. Their calendar faces even stiffer competition this year from a range of competitors more likely to please Herod than the holy family.

We thought it was time to find the very worst. And that's where you come in.

Happy Badvent calendar hunting!
